In addition to his own design work, Kyle has been fortunate to have been a part of the neo-classical design movement spearheaded by Tom Doak, the team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, and Gil Hanse. This movement has changed the industry the last 20 years by moving the “Design & Build” philosophy to the forefront. This philosphy is dedicated to building world class courses and restorations themselves. Instead of merely handing plans created in an office to a contractor, they are hands on building their own courses. This combination of craftmanship and personal attention produces better results and eliminates uneccessary outside contracted costs for a client – a substantial sum on any project. As a result, this philosophy is responsible for building the highest ranked courses of the last 80 years at substantially lower prices. The ability to achieve award winning results at Mid Pines for half the price was predicated on Kyle’s knowledge of the business, the Design & Build philosophy, and doing as much of the project as possible “in-house” with the maintenance staff. For any client, this is a perfect formula. As a Design/Build firm, this philosophy allows Kyle to achieve the highest quality results while translating concepts personally in the field. This also allows him to eliminate many of these unnecessary outside contracted costs, and keep project budgets/expenditures as low as possible. His shaping, design, management, construction, finishing, and project planning talents are well established, and he specializes particularly in the artful design and construction of greens complexes and bunkers.
